The AWM Investment Committee is responsible for managing all client assets. This includes asset allocation, portfolio construction, security selection, tax management, portfolio monitoring and rebalancing, trade oversight and more.

David began his financial services career in 1982 following an undergraduate degree from UCLA and seven years of professional baseball. David earned licenses in securities, insurance, real estate and then in 1985, his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ certification. In 1997, David started Penniall & Associates, where he has provided comprehensive financial services to a wide range of individuals, corporations, small businesses, self-employed persons and professional athletes. He also is a Registered Principal with United Planners.


Sarah joined Penniall & Associates in 2007 after several years of experience at KPMG, a large public accounting firm. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA®), and Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®). Sarah is responsible for the performance analysis and research of Penniall’s client portfolios. She also contributes to their retirement services group by monitoring the investment options for our retirement plan clients. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo.


Anne joined Penniall & Associates in August 2010 after working for Marriott International in their Corporate Finance & Accounting department for 2 years. Anne graduated from the University of San Diego in 2008 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration & Marketing and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®). Anne is the Chairperson of their investment committee and is responsible for the investment research and performance analysis of client portfolios. Anne also assists with the monitoring of investment options for the retirement services division.

Brian R. Tinker, CFP®, AIF®

Brian decided to utilize his tax preparation and investment selection skills and chose to pursue a career as a Financial Planner in 2002. He helped his father prepare tax returns at an early age and turned his attention to stock selection as an equity analyst in 1999. Shortly after experiencing the bear market at the turn of the millennium, he decided to become a financial planner to help individuals prepare themselves financially for life after work. He integrates a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary financial planning process that is goal-oriented and includes: Cash flow management and budgeting, Risk management, Investment and Tax management, Retirement planning as well as Estate planning.

Brian takes a holistic approach to financial planning recognizing all areas of finance affect a client’s ability to reach goals and objectives. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® designee, he upholds his ethical and legal responsibility to put client needs first when creating strategies to help them achieve their financial goals and objectives.

An education from UCLA, multiple securities and insurance licenses, the CFP® and the AIF® certifications have prepared Brian to help his clients achieve their goals and desired standard of living within the framework of industry laws and regulations. Brian is a Financial Advisor with Penniall & Associates and a Registered Representative with United Planners.


Brandon’s experience of being a professional athlete, corporate banker, business owner, and CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™  professional brings a dynamic process to working with clients on investment planning and management strategies.

Brandon attended UCLA where he was a captain on the Baseball Team. After graduating with a degree in Sociology and minor in Political Science, he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the MLB Amateur Draft. Brandon played two years of professional baseball before beginning a career in Corporate Banking with Union Bank.

Following a four-year stint in Corporate Banking, he transitioned into private wealth management to pursue his passion to help educate individuals and their families on their financial lives.

Brandon’s investment designations include: Series 7 and Series 66 and he is a Registered Representative of United Planners.

 Erik Averill, CFP®

Erik brings a comprehensive perspective to a professional athlete’s financial needs through his experience as a professional athlete, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional and business owner. Erik holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Finance from the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University. Erik was an All-American baseball player and captain of the ASU Baseball Team. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2005. He played professional baseball from 2005– 2008. His investment designations include: Series 7, Series 66 and he is a Registered Representative of United Planners.

Vanessa joined Penniall & Associates in 2008 after several years working for Mercer Consulting, a global human resource consulting firm. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Vanessa is passionately committed to help clients build, manage and preserve wealth for themselves and future generations. Vanessa graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Communication and a minor degree in Business Administration from the University of Southern California. She currently holds a California Life, Health and Disability insurance license and the Series 7 and 66 registrations as a Registered Representative with United Planners.

Emily Velasco, CFP®

Emily joined Penniall & Associates in 2006, and is a graduate from California State University, Fresno with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ who enjoys working with clients to meet their financial goals. She is responsible for overseeing all trading operations, compiling financial plans and reports, and managing day-to-day client service requests . Emily has also obtained her Real Estate license, her Series 7 and 66 securities licenses and is a Registered Representative with United Planners.


Devon joined Penniall & Associates in 2012 after graduating from the University of Southern California with a degree in economics. Devon is responsible for managing and implementing the majority of all daily trading requests. He works closely with the financial advisors to prepare performance reports for client meetings and assists with client service requests. Devon also maintains several of the firm’s software programs that are used for monitoring model portfolios, client reporting and trading. Devon holds the Series 7 and Series 66 licenses and is a Registered Assistant with United Planners.

Jürgen Schwarze

Jürgen joined Penniall & Associates in 2014 as a Consultant with 18 years’ experience in the financial services industry, 13 of which as lead portfolio analyst at APD Financial. He comes to Penniall with a vast array of experience including serving as an Operations Manager, Investment Advisory Compliance Officer, and a close-end fund analyst. Jürgen specializes in conducting comprehensive financial plans using proprietary software to analyze and project for client goals and needs. Jürgen served in the military for 33 years. His first tour was as a Marine bandsmen followed by 29 years in the Air National Guard where he is currently a Chief Master Sergeant and Band Manager for the Air National Guard Band of the West Coast.
